Charo Calvo is a composer and sound designer living in Brussels. In 1987, she moved to Brussels as a founder member of the contemporary dance company Ultima Vez, directed by Wim Vandekeybus. She studied Electroacoustic Composition at Mons Conservatoire with Annette Vande Gorne, graduating in 1999, and later becoming professor of Composition for Media. She has composed acousmatic music pieces, soundtracks, and sound design for many films, dance shows, theatre, films, videos, installations, and radio with a wide international diffusion. She has a love for experimentation and research, re-inventing the dramaturgy of sound at every occasion; and a fascination for the power of sound images, engaged in a personal language. Her radio piece Phonobiographie #1 was selected for Prix Europa and won the Palma Ars Acustica EBU 2014. Her most recent work, Qualia, was again shortlisted for the Palma 2017. She is a member of the Artists-in-Berlin Program of the DAAD in 2017/18.
